Talbot Karate Club Profile
I formed the Talbot Karate Club in June 2000 to satisfy a need for some of my
former students. Having once retired from the sport I received numerous
requests from former students and other instructors to encourage me back into
the sport all with no success until a number of my former students informed me
they were no longer prepared to carry on with their training if they could no
longer train with me. I was not prepared for this to happen as I and they
had put a lot of hard work into their training therefore I opened the Talbot
Karate Club.
From the opening of the club it has always been well attended and currently
has a licensed membership of over 100 students and keeps growing from strength
to strength. We have students of all age groups with the youngest being 6 years
old & the eldest being a young 69 years.
The club has produced numerous champions at National and International level
and currently has six Welsh Internationals and one English International
training at the club.
The club is a member of the British Karate Association / Wales which is a
member of the Welsh Karate Governing Body. The W.K.G.B. is affiliated with
the European Karate Federation & the World Karate Governing Body.
Tubo

Sensei - Michael Mainwaring
Instructor Michael Mainwaring (Tubo) started training at the tender age of
16yrs having had no active interest in sports or games at school but was
fascinated by the art of karate when he first encountered it. Local boy
Roberto (Swede) Masterangeli had achieved Dan grade and was opening a club above
the Green Meadow public house. He persuaded Michael to start training with him
and from there Michael accompanied Roberto when he transferred to the Afan Lido
where Michael trained for approx 20 years (off & on due to work commitments).
Michael left the Afan Lido to join the Welsh Karate Association for 8 years but
has now found a permanent home with the British Karate Association / Wales.
Apart from running his own club Michael is also the National Youth Coach
for the Welsh Karate Governing Body and is also a member of the W.K.G.B.
selection panel.
